Teleconference Learning  Q and A

How does teleconference learning work technically?

Courses and Learning Groups meet over a secure teleconference line.

Course and Learning Group schedules are listed on the site.  Enrolled students are provided with the telephone number and conference code.  At the appointed time, students dial in, enter the code, and join the class.

How does teleconference learning work dynamically?

The teleconference group works like any other group or class.  Every learner is encouraged to take up a portion of the talking time and to bring their thoughts and feelings to the class work.  After a brief getting-used-to period, people tend to feel as comfortable as if they would be seeing each other face-to-face.

For some learners the telephone has become the preferred learning experience.  In the words of one student, “being on the phone somehow frees me to bring my intellectual and emotional faculties to the cases and the people at hand.  The convenience of the telephone combined with the atmosphere of focused telephone learning helps me learn to my fullest potential.”

We recommend that you treat the telephone classroom as any other classroom experience in the sense that you should locate yourself in a comfortable place and not engage in any other activity that would distract you.

Why do clinicians choose teleconference learning?

Convenience, ease of learning, access to colleagues and communities without geographic restraints, interest in the experiential components of NCAPS courses, and a diverse student population are some of the advantages of teleconference learning.

Clinicians are also drawn to specific course material and to the attention paid to practice building.  Ceu's for social workers are offered for certain courses.

How will I know if this is the right experience for me?

As in most educational experiences, you will have a good sense after a few sessions whether you are learning new concepts and ideas.  We invite you to speak your mind as the learning process unfolds and let your instructor and classmates know when and if and how you are learning or not learning
